biophotonics

This is one of the fastest growing markets and scientifically challenging areas and is one where there are great opportunities for businesses large and small. In 2007 the biophotonics market was valued at $53 billion per annum. We have identified two particular areas of research strength where there are real emerging opportunities.
Stem cell imaging. This involves monitoring time evolution and growth of genetically engineered cells in controlled microenvironments to control differentiation and enable tissue engineering and organ replacement.
Neuroscience photonics. Application of advanced imaging technologies (two-photon microscopy, confocal endoscopic imaging, micro-LED arrays etc.) operating at the single neuron level, for noninvasive monitoring and control of neural process in awake, alert animals.
