IndustrY Partnership Programme

The SU2P Industry Partnership Programme

The Industry Partnership Programme is a network of Industry Partners.

SU2P is a collaboration of 6 universities that delivers a disruptive new approach to business engagement, with facilitated, flexible interactions between UK industry and university researchers in Scotland and the US. The collaboration works hand-in-hand with industry partners to understand their needs and then identify relevant investigators motivated to provide expert advice and/or deliver flexible project solutions to company requirements. The programme also provides an effective way for industry to contribute to and sustain the research and teaching of the departments and programs in which they have long term interests. SU2P presents an opportunity for a more strategic and fully embedded relationship with international research leaders and investigators in Scotland {http://www.SU2P.com/StaffProfiles.aspx} and the US {http://photonics.stanford.edu/about/faculty}.

This network provides reciprocal access to (and for) the corresponding SPRC network at Stanford University.

Details of membership costs and benefits are here.

 INDUSTRIAL PARTNERS

Coherent, Inc., is a supplier of photonics based solutions in a range of commercial and scientific research applications.  Coherent designs, manufactures, services and markets lasers and related accessories.  Our products address a range of applications, which include microelectronics, scientific research and government programs, OEM components and instrumentation, and materials processing.

M Squared Lasers’ expertise spans the entire laser performance spectrum, from CW to femtosecond pulse widths, from deep UV to mid-IR to terahertz wavelengths, and from high average power to high peak power. Whether it’s a SolsTiS CW single frequency Ti:S laser, a widely tunable Firefly mid-IR or terahertz source, a Sprite automated ultrafast oscillator, or our ICE-BLOC photonic controllers, our customers can choose from a large portfolio of standard products. Or, if needed, work with us to craft a customised design, tailored perfectly to their needs.

mLED Ltd is a recent spin-out,  developing novel InGaN micropixellated LED (‘microLED’) arrays. The Institute of Photonics at Strathclyde University leads the field in this area. mLED Ltd was incorporated to exclusively license this world-leading micro-display capability. microLED arrays provide a versatile platform technology for a range of applications- communications, printing, microscopy, semiconductor processing, life sciences, etc. mLED is developing a suite of products for optogenetic applications and supplying developer kits to system innovators.

Optos is a leading medical technology company for the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of ultra-widefield retinal imaging devices.  Optos' proprietary platform technology provides a high resolution image – optomap – of up to 200 degrees, or approximately 82% of the retina, in a single capture which takes a quarter of a second.  This provides  an important tool for the screening and diagnosis of eye problems, such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal tears and age-related macular degeneration.  It can also indicate evidence of non-eye diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers.

SELEX Galileo is one of Europe's leading defence electronics companies.  In the electro-optic field the facility in Edinburgh, Scotland is a major supplier of laser rangefinder/designators and directed infra-red counter measure sub systems. With a heritage in elctro-optics stretching back to the 1940's the company works closely with all the major government agencies and prime contractors. It is active in research into new laser types and imaging technologies.

Thales UK's purpose-built optronics facility in Glasgow is a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced electro-optic night vision equipment and systems with a heritage in the field of optics stretching back to 1888. Equipment such as Laser Rangefinders and Laser Designators, Infra-Red Thermal Imaging Cameras, Submarine Periscopes and Optronic Masts, Armoured Vehicle Sighting and Surveillance Systems, Airborne Reconnaissance Pods and Infra-red Threat Warning systems for aircraft are designed and manufactured on site.
